"The Shipwreck of Gnalic"
by dr Irena Radić Rossi and Mariangela Nicolardi
The feature documentary, produced by RED Studio, in collaboration with a team of Croatian underwater archaeologists, follows the research of a 16th-century ship that sank in the Adriatic sea.
In 1967, near the islet of Gnalić, a fisherman found large wooden remains on the seabed. Experts declare the found remains a shipwreck and an action is underway to save the archeological site from numerous thefts. The bottom of the site is covered with glass and with each dive there are more and more questions. Was it a warship, a pirate or a merchant ship, how old is it and what story does its unusual cargo hide?
After numerous researches, four hundred years later, Gagliana Grossa will tell her story.
Underwater archaeologists from the University of Zadar under the leadership of doc.dr.sc. Irene Radić Rossi, in collaboration with the University of Texas A&M, and archaeologists from around the globe, reveal the history of the sunken ship. The story of one ship is actually the story of Renaissance Europe and its turbulent past.
The documentary is cofunded by PIMo.
